Make Up

This is a pointless post, so don't look for deep meaning here. Just getting back on the horse, given that breaking the ice last time didn't work as well as planned.

Every so often, a big deal is made when women decide to go without make up. Television shows have done whole segments, or even episodes, where their female anchors have gone without makeup. Yes, we get it, everyone looks better with makeup. That's true. Everyone, men, women, children. Everyone. That's the point of makeup.

As for me, when I wear makeup, it's minimal: lipstick and mascara. A major day is one where I add eye liner. It takes a special occasion or worship for me to go all out any longer. It's been this way for years. But back when we were living on the road, and then in the Alaskan interior, I got out of the habit of even doing my mascara and lipstick thing. It really was the equivalent of wearing a ball gown to the grocery store.

It's a habit I have tried to get back into, recently. Make the days that I don't wear makeup the anomaly, as opposed to the other way around. Because I've realized over the last several months that it's not about thinking I'm ugly without makeup. I really like how I look, makeup or no. It's about the self-respect to finish it all up, be put together, take the time to put a bow on the present. The little touch that says I care about this.

Mind you, my favorite lipstick has been discontinued, and its replacement changed its hue, so I'm on the hunt for the perfect dark brown now, but still...The hunt is worth it.

Well, THAT Sucked

Hi world! Guess whose back is better? Lithus shook his cold flu thing last weekend, too, so we're both on top of our game. Finally.

2 weeks of being laid out. No thanks. But as of yesterday, I am officially better. I didn't need a pain pill at all. No prescription strength naproxen. No over the counter ibuprofen. And certainly not a hydrocodone.

It's nice to move freely. And walk easily. And sit without pain. The staff here at the apartment building tell me I've "got (my) wiggle back." I take it as a compliment.

Last night at dinner, I thought about having a glass of wine ~ I've been off the hydrocodone for a few days now ~ but couldn't do it. Not even a single glass. It's too good to be clear-headed, unmuddied, coherent. Hydrocodone and muscle relaxants made for some interesting days.

Anyway! I'm back, and it feels good. We now return you to your regularly scheduled blogging.

The Worst of the Worst

Lithus and I have been felled at the same time. Yep, it happened.

He has the virulent bug that is going around that you may have heard about on the national news because it's kicking so many people's asses so hard. And I have done something to my back that resulted in my writhing around on the floor Monday night, screaming. We tried home care but when 48 hours of being smart didn't help, I went to the doctor. Now, I have a laundry list of meds and Lithus can crash and be sick, which will of course, help him heal faster.

We should both be better in time to head back out on the road next weekend. Until then, it's a goddamn Greek tragedy down here. ;)

Breaking the Seal

I was reading another blog and he talked about "doing the turtle thing" where he/you/we/I pull into our shell. He was talking about it on a really deep, meaningful level, but it struck me on a more mundane one: Pobble Thoughts and Stilettos.

Yes, yes...I've had a very busy few weeks. Tons of pictures on my phone and camera that need to make it onto the computer in order to update Stilettos appropriately. Lots of unknown travel dates and times and locations. Interesting challenges with work and visits with family, neither of which could be ignored for the other. Blah, blah, blah.

In spite of all that, along with all that, the longer I went without posting something here, the bigger it got and the more it loomed ~ and the more I pulled into my shell. So, here we are. No great...anything. Just a post. And I'm about to put one up over at Stilettos in the Outback that does the same thing, breaks the ice.

It's spring and that's a good time to look around.
